The 130 Year, & Counting, War. Part 5.
The Israel–Palestine conflict, and the broader Arab–Israeli wars, are not outliers or exceptions to the Anglo-American imperial ethos, they are direct products of it, and in many ways its most durable and destructive expression.

Here’s how this menace connects back to 1898, Sykes-Picot, Versailles, and the OSS/CIA–British intelligence merger.

The Missing Link. Palestine/Israel as a British Imperial Project (1917–1948).

We have already touched on Sykes-Picot (1916). The Balfour Declaration (1917) was the companion piece, issued by the same British government, addressed to the same Rothschild family previously mentioned (Lord Walter Rothschild, a Zionist leader).

What Balfour promised. A "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine, a land where 90% of the population was Arab.
Why Britain did it. Not out of sympathy for Jews (British elites were largely antisemitic), but for strategic reasons.
Control Palestine as a buffer for the Suez Canal (the lifeline to India). (India was a British colony at the time.)
Win over American and Russian Jewish financiers to the Allied war effort.
Create a loyal European settler colony in the heart of the Arab world, a permanent lever of influence.

That's the same logic as 1898's Philippines or the Boer War's South Africa, plant a friendly population to control territory and resources.

The Mandate Period (1920–1948). The Template for Later Wars.

Britain ruled Palestine under a League of Nations mandate (direct from Versailles). From 1920–1948, every major conflict was foreshadowed.

1920, 1921, 1929, 1936–1939. Arab revolts against Jewish immigration and British rule. British response. collective punishment, village demolitions, aerial bombing of civilian areas (same tactics as Iraq, 1920s).
Jewish insurgency (1944–1948). Irgun and Lehi (Zionist paramilitaries) bomb British targets, including the King David Hotel (1946). Britain, exhausted after WW2, hands the problem to the newly created UN.
1947–1949 War. The First Arab–Israeli War.

UN Partition Plan (1947). A British-drafted, U.S.-backed proposal giving 55% of Palestine to a Jewish state (when Jews were 1/3 of the population and owned 6% of the land). The same imperial cartography as Sykes-Picot.
The war itself. Israel fights off five Arab armies. But crucially, the war never ends, it just shifts into armistice lines, refugee camps, and a permanent state of "ceasefire."

1956 Suez Crisis. The Anglo-French-Israeli Alliance, Exposed.

This is the most revealing moment in the entire framework. Here's what happened.

Egypt's Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalizes the Suez Canal (formerly British-French owned).
Britain, France, and Israel secretly plan to retake it. Israel invades Sinai, Britain and France bomb Egypt, then land troops.
The U.S. (Eisenhower) forces them to withdraw, not out of sympathy for Egypt, but because the U.S. sees itself as the sole manager of the Middle East now. Britain's old-style colonialism is too blunt, too exposed.

The lesson. The Anglo-American alliance is real, but the U.S. is the senior partner after 1956. Britain can scheme, but Washington has veto power.

1967 Six-Day War. The Post-Colonial Explosion.

Israel preemptively strikes Egypt, Syria, Jordan, capturing,

The West Bank (from Jordan),
Gaza Strip (from Egypt),
Golan Heights (from Syria),
East Jerusalem (including the Old City).

Why this matters and how it connects the “for-ever war” narrative. The 1967 borders (often called "pre-1967" in peace talks), become the new Sykes-Picot, another set of lines drawn by force, not by the people living there. The occupation of the West Bank and Gaza is nearing its 60th year.

1973 Yom Kippur War. The Oil Weapon Emerges.

Egypt and Syria attack to reclaim lost territory. Israel survives, but only after the U.S. airlifts weapons (Operation Nickel Grass). In response,

Arab oil embargo against the U.S. and Netherlands.
Oil prices quadruple.
The global economy shudders.

The link. From 1973 onward, the Israel–Palestine conflict is no longer just a regional war, it's a fulcrum of global energy politics. Every subsequent Gulf War (1991, 2003) has its roots here.

Lebanon Wars (1978, 1982, 2006). Proxy Battles Within Proxy Battles.

1982 Lebanon War. Israel invades to expel the PLO, but the real target is the new balance of power. Iran's Islamic Revolution (1979) is now backing Shiite militias, including Hezbollah.
The U.S. role. U.S. Marines deploy as "peacekeepers" (1982–1984), then withdraw after the Beirut barracks bombing (241 Marines killed). The same "intervention then retreat" pattern seen from Somalia (1993) to Afghanistan (2021).
2006 Lebanon War. Israel fights Hezbollah to a draw, the first time an Arab force has effectively resisted an Israeli invasion. Hezbollah is funded and armed by Iran, but its tactics (rockets, tunnels, guerrilla warfare) are learned from Vietnamese, Afghan, and Algerian anti-colonial wars, all of which ythe 1898 to present chain includes.

The Intifadas (1987–1993, 2000–2005): The War Without Armies.

First Intifada. Palestinians rise up with stones, strikes, and civil disobedience. Israel responds with mass arrests, deportations, and live fire. This is the "police action" euphemism applied to an entire population.
Second Intifada. Suicide bombings, Israeli reoccupation of West Bank cities, the separation wall. By the end, both sides have embraced the methods of 20th-century counter-insurgency warfare, targeted killings, collective punishment, siege warfare (Gaza after 2007).

Gaza (2007–present). The Open-Air Prison as a Weapon of War.

After Hamas wins elections (2006) and takes Gaza (2007), Israel (with Egyptian cooperation) imposes a land, sea, and air blockade.

2008–2009, 2012, 2014, 2021, 2023–2024. Repeated bombing campaigns killing tens of thousands of civilians.
The logic. Collective punishment as policy. The same British tactic used in the Boer War (concentration camps), in Malaya (1948–1960), and in Algeria (1954–1962). It's the Anglo-French imperial playbook, adapted by Israel with U.S. weapons and diplomatic cover.

Students of war are no doubt well versed in what we have laid out these four days. Your humble vagabond is not a student of war, nor a very good student of history. I am a student of patterns, dots, puzzle pieces and connections. 1898, which is way closer to 130 years than 120, is only the current chapter of a war-mongering psychosis that’s been on-going since before Christ. Engineered by humans who profess to believe in the teachings of Christ. Figure that one out. This reign of savagery, which has spawned countless genocides, seems to be coming to an end now, under the resistance campaign of Iran, and the rising economic and military strength of China and Russia, both of which, along with India, have suffered and been geopolitically bitch-slapped by the British Empire, NATO, the EU, and the US.
That’s it for now. No need to take this into Friday. But there’s more. When we pick this up, we will take a look at India’s wars against its neighbors.
