RE: Why do we pray like we update God???
Imagine that you are a parent and your kids wake up every day and go about their duties like you don't exist, they don't greet you, they don't talk to you at all, even when they see you they just pretend you are not there and move on.
Would you be happy about such attitude? I guess No!
That's what we do when we don't pray as believers.
Prayer is a way we communicate to our father. We are not updating him no! We are communicating to him as our father. We are relating or Fellowshipping with him.
In Genesis where the Bible told us that God came down at the cool of evening to fellowship with Adam and Eve, that was clearly communication. God loves to talk to his children and loves to see his children talk to him.
So the essence of prayers is to contact and absorb God. Not just for update or stuff like that.
One of the reasons why God created humans was for fellowship, he wanted someone that is exactly like him, someone he can relate with, no wonder he called Abraham his friend. Do you truly know what friendship means? In friendship you gist, talk, laugh, get angry and stuff like that. Amazing right?
God longs for such deep relationship that's why he gave us the tool called prayers and tats why we pray.

Now, if God created man for fellowship which is that communication to him in prayer, why then do we not maintain that fellowship. When we pray even you my sister, we be like, “God I need money for my fees or have you seen my situation lately? Or we tell him, God see what is happening in my family oh, I don't like it. I feel we don't fellowship with God at all as Africans especially, we update God and not communicate to him, we complain and not fellowship.
Prayer is a communication between God and man, now as a parent when your child comes to tell you about their school fees that you know have not been paid, that's an update.
We spend more time updating God in prayer yhan we communicate or fellpwship with him. Have you seen a white ma pray before? That is an example of communication and fellowshiping with God. We just pray to God for update here. I am only trying to widen my umderstanding about prayer and pray instead of giving an update.
I totally understand your point of view..
Yes in communication we are allowed to talk about our needs. But talking about our needs is not just the reason why we pray.
You are totally right, many Africans only go to God to ask and keep asking, leaving that part of fellowship.
Let me tell you one secret God told me one day "He said to me Ruth the reason why sometimes I don't quickly respond to the request of many is because if I do I will never see them again"
God was trying to tell me he has actually found out that many people has left that part of fellowship and turned it into making daily requests which is now selfish removing the true essence. He doesn't want to miss us, so he allows the request to linger so that we keep coming back to him.
Some times just go to God to have sweet fellowship, do it for weeks and you will see that unspoken need in your heart been met.
