Goddess Athena

Afternoon everyone ….

I don’t know about you but Greek mythology has always intrigued me. I have read a lot of books over the years on it. So when I saw a silver round series on it. NO BRAINER!!!

Today I’m going to share another piece from the Intaglio Mint. It’s part of their Greek Mythology series. Athena the Goddess of Wisdom.

Athena was one of the twelve chief Olympian deities and the goddess associated with wisdom, craft, and warfare. In wars—where she was most commonly depicted—Athena embodied cold rationality, tactics, and strategy. Athena’s cold logic stood in direct contrast to her brother Ares’ rage, violence, and impulsiveness.

Athena or Athene, often given the epithet Pallas, is an ancient Greek goddess associated with wisdom, warfare, and handicraft. Greek historians mention that Athena has ancient Libyan origins in North Africa and was later syncretized with the Roman goddess Minerva. Athena was regarded as the patron and protectress of various cities across Greece, particularly the city of Athens, from which she most likely received her name. The Parthenon on the Acropolis of Athens is dedicated to her. Her major symbols include owls, olive trees, snakes, and the Gorgoneion. In art, she is generally depicted wearing a helmet and holding a spear.

Here is their beautiful rendition.
