Check out the overhead on this farm run we did
One of the great benefits of Chiang Mai is that even though it is a sprawling and rather busy city, one of the largest in the entire country actually, it also has a bunch of nature stuff and even park reserves that are very close to the city center. Chiang Mai is unique in this regard because while there is plenty of countryside that remains in this country, most of it is well out of the cities they are near and traveling in cars for several hours is necessary to see them.
In Chiang Mai, you can access these areas in 20 minutes or a bit more in almost any direction from downtown.

Everyone has likely seen land like this just by looking out the window of an airplane when traveling but we were down there in the literal muck over the weekend and because of a recent rainfall it was especially muddy and lots of boots came back pretty dirty. This wasn't the idea when the trail was set but none of us could have foreseen the torrential rainfall that happened on Friday just a day before the run.
This was a bit problematic for the people that had spent the week setting the trail.

The hares had to go back out on Saturday morning and re-run their trail in order to make sure all the markings were not wiped out. we mark our trails with flour to be as environmentally friendly as possible but there is always a great risk of something like what happened this past week happening. Flour doesn't mix so well with heavy rainfall so these guys who set the trail did a lot of work in order to have this ready by Saturday afternoon. Kudos to them for doing this for us.
This was also one of those rather rare "A to B" trails runs where we do not finish at the same place where we start and these sorts of trails are particularly good because some of the boys out there like to try to cheat and use their GPS to get back to the camp faster than others. It is much more difficult to pull of this cheat trick when you don't actually know where the trail is going to conclude. I'm looking at you "Skidmark!"
While that last image looks rather dry that is not a good representation of the entire area we were running on. Since most of this was rice paddies, which are normally quite wet by design, we had a lot of mud involved in the mix and this resulted in some pretty funny stories including "Pu**y Whisperer" briefly losing his shoe in the muck.

It wasn't a huge crew of people this time and this is expected during the summertime when all of those losers go back to their home countries to enjoy the few good months of weather that they have. All in we probably had about 20 people total, and that is enough. At least there was plenty of beer to spare.
We are still doing 3 runs a week minimum and anyone can come and join us. It will change your life for the better to become a Hasher! Check out full details about the upcoming Chiang Mai schedule at our official website
