A neglected fruit full of nutrients
There are many different types of fruits scattered in the nature of our rural Bengal. One such well-known but somewhat rare fruit for the current generation is Dewa or 'Dewa fruit'. We can see bunches of raw Dewa fruits hanging on the branches of trees. Its outer skin is quite uneven, grooved and wavy in shape. The fruit is green in color when raw, which turns light yellow or yellowish-brown in color after ripening. Its inner part is filled with reddish-pink seeds. This sweet-sour fruit not only enhances the taste of the mouth, but also has extraordinary medicinal and nutritional properties:
Dewa is an excellent source of vitamin 'C' and calcium, which helps in the formation of skin, teeth and bones. This fruit is quite effective in relieving constipation and relieving stomach gas. It plays a role in increasing the functioning of the liver and eliminating anemia. Traditional fruits like Dewa are disappearing due to the rush of urban mechanization. It is very necessary to increase the regular cultivation and consumption of this nutritious fruit to maintain our health and the tradition of indigenous fruits.
