Something in excess and false modesty.
Something in excess and false modesty.
Modesty is not a vice, as people often say when confronted with what we call modesty, but everything has its upside and downside, and even modesty can be false.
Signs of false modesty are often observed in parks where developers, or those involved in the park's landscaping, out of modesty failed to allow for tree growth, apparently afraid of being accused of stealing paving stones. They laid paving stones in abundance, but this generosity backfired, as they say.
Trees are fundamentally unfamiliar with modesty, and everything they do, they grow, they do it in excess, but without paying attention to anyone or anything.
Out of modesty, even in church, people pray to God for less than He's capable of, and then complain that they lack something somewhere.
Little children don't know what modesty is and ask their dad for dogs, a railroad, a telescope, and a bicycle, without praising their dad's salary. They simply ask, and sooner or later, they get it, because dad remembers what else his child dreams of.
In some ways, we should take a cue from the weeds in the garden. They are alien to everything associated with modesty; they grow even after weeding and after pesticides, and they aren't embarrassed by the effort you've put into removing them from the garden; they just want to live, to live happily!
