Lantana Camara is beautiful but it can be a bad idea

Lantana is popular for a reason, you would see it and easily appreciate and love the beauty it brings to your garden, and it's durable enough to keep around through the seasons. But it's too good to be true. Look closer and you see just how destructive Lantana can be. Lantana camara is a notorious invasive plant that can take over anything you've planted. These ones were not intentionally planted, it was bricks stored in a compound waiting to be used. It had been there for months and without anybody's intervention, the weeds started to grow. The Lantana joined.

The bigger these plants get, the more annoying they become. If it was a garden you hard and it grew there, it'll establishe a tight hold over the ecosystem that you planted it in, killing off whatever competition is around. Then it spreads outwards too, dominating the garden.

The competition did not just include the other plants. Livestock have gotten sick just from grazing near it and children can become ill after just a small amount of contact with the plant. The last thing you want your child doing is eating one of these. They look attractive which is a trap but it's not food, it'll be toxic to you.

You can end up getting skin irritation if you keep touching it all over.

This is not a plant gone wild, it's purpose is to spread and outlive everything in the ecosystem it invades. Everybody who planted it with the hopes it would beautify their environment, well you were right, it's beautiful but it could spread beyond where you choose it to stay.

Lantana is a stunning ornamental garden plant but looking at the destruction it can bring to your garden, it is not something I would recommend as a responsible option. If you're going to go into gardening you need to understand what you are planting.
