RE: 🌀 Introducing SteemTwist — Steem with a Twist
🌀 Twisters, the Stream just got Smarter! Introducing Trending Now 🔥
Hey Twisters! 🌀
I’ve been heads-down in the code for SteemTwist lately, and I’m excited to share a major update to our decentralized microblogging experience. If you’ve checked out the Explore or Home feeds recently, you’ll notice a new guest at the top: the Trending Now widget!
What’s the "Twist"? 🌀
Most trending algorithms are black boxes hidden on a corporate server. Not here. SteemTwist now features a client-side streaming trend detector that runs entirely in your browser. It’s not looking at what was popular yesterday; it’s looking at what we are talking about right now, in this very moment.
How it Works (The Short Version) 🛠️
The app tracks every word appearing in your current view—whether it’s the global Explore firehose or your personalized Home timeline.
- The Score: It balances how often a word appears "recently" against its historical "lifetime" count.
- The Decay: Trends fade naturally! Every 8 seconds, the "recent" count decays, so if people stop talking about a topic, it slips off the chart to make room for the next big thing.
- Noise Filter: We’ve built-in a "Stopword" filter to keep out the boring stuff (like "the," "and," or "steemit") so only the real topics surface.
Why You’ll Love It 😍
- Real-Time Vibes: The bar chart is animated and updates live as new twists fly in via the Firehose.
- Privacy First: Since the detection happens locally in your browser, no external API is tracking what you’re reading to figure out what’s "trending".
- Context Aware: It even works on the Signals page, where it can show you which "Twisters" are generating the most buzz in your notifications.
SteemTwist remains a zero-backend, zero-server dApp—just four static files bringing you a censorship-resistant social experience.
Go check out what’s trending on the Explore tab now and let’s keep the stream alive! 🌊
Stay Twisting! 🌀
