Wild camping and wilder peacocks

Waking up to a rare, sun-drenched Welsh morning instantly transformed our family camping trip into something magical. Golden sunlight streamed through the tent canvas, replacing the usual damp chill of the countryside with a welcoming, ambient warmth. The kids unzipped the tent doors to reveal rolling green hills basking under a bright, cloudless blue sky that made the valleys look entirely renewed. As the smell of camp coffee and sizzling breakfast began to drift through the air, we sat together on camp chairs, soaking in the gentle breeze and enjoying a perfect summer day in a landscape famously known for its rain.


The highlight of the morning arrived when an unexpected visitor strolled casually past our campsite. A vibrant wild peacock marched right past our tent door, its brilliant blue and green feathers shimmering under the intense Welsh sunshine. The children froze in absolute delight, watching in silence as the majestic bird pecked at the grass just feet away from our sleeping bags. It felt wonderfully surreal to witness such an exotic creature roaming freely against the backdrop of the Welsh wilderness. That peaceful, sunny moment became an unforgettable memory, perfectly capturing the unpredictable joy of living close to nature.
