That time Jack Black, Matt Dillon an I did Detroit air control

Are you confused by the title, well you should be because it is a bunch of nonsense. This is the sort of life that exists only in my mind and only on the days that I have very vivid dreams out of nowhere.

Last night I was running the Detroit air control for an airport with two celebrities that I really never think of and have no good reason to think of. But the two of them invaded my brain and we had a mostly unsuccessful job to do over and over with the use of the control of telecommunications and also ground transport that we destroyed almost all of.

When I first woke up from this bizarre dream I thought to myself "Why Matt Dillon and Jack Black" and especially "why Detroit?" and at least in the case of Matt Dillon there is at least one movie that I am familiar with where he played a cop. I thought he did an extremely good job in his role in Crash and as far as I know it ended up getting nominated for a bunch of awards.

Jack Black is a bit more of a mystery though. Unlike the general consensus in Hollywood, I do not consider Jack Black to be a talented actor. I think he is an amazing singer and a "silly boy" for sure, but a talented actor? Not so much.

There are a lot of different Jack Blacks out there so I should be more specific. The one that was in my dream was of the "Enemy of the State" variety, which IMO is a very good movie.

The silly, slapstick, loud, and obnoxious Jack Black thankfully didn't make an appearance because if he had I probably would have woken up out of frustration. I had the good fortune of being subjected to the quiet and calculating Jack Black, who actually was the voice of reason when the 3 of us were trying to unsuccessfully land some planes in Detroit outside the airport.

These planes needed to land and for whatever reason we couldn't do it on the normal runways. So the three of us got out there on the roads in our police cruisers and cleared the way for them to land on winding mountain streets.

There are no mountains in Detroit and the roads there have no reason to not be completely straight. Or at least that is my waking impression of it, I have only ever been to Detroit once in my life and that was because I had a job that was taking place in the nearby city of Battle Creek. This was over 20 years ago and I really don't have any idea about Detroit.

Why Detroit? I have no idea.

My brain just kind of goes in some seriously strange loops every now and then.

Last night right before going to bed I did a couple of things that I don't normally do. For one thing, I had just finished a book called "The Wanderers" and it was absolutely terrible. I'll do a book review about that at some point I would imagine but just god-awful that book was and it was also very long. So perhaps I was a bit frustrated. However, towards the end of that book the characters in it are in a mountain city in Colorado, so perhaps that had a bit of influence on my mind.

The second thing that could have invoked having such a vivid dream could have been that I took a Tramadol before bed last night because my old back injury was acting up. I have mentioned in the past that this synthetic opiate has some rather strange side-effects on the old noggin' when I am trying to sleep. I did sleep rather well though, I will say that... and my back didn't hurt.

We ended up getting all the planes on the ground somewhat safely but we did crash all of the cars we were driving multiple times. I wouldn't say that Jack, Matt, and I are particularly good at the job we were tasked with doing. There were very few other cars on the road though, which is probably pretty odd for Detroit.

I'm not going to bother analyzing this dream, it's too wacky to bother and the psychologists would probably just say that I am avoiding some sort of important change that is necessary in my life because that is what they say no matter what you are dreaming about.
