THE ONE WHO CONTENDS WITH THE ALMIGHTY

“Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”
Job 40:2 (NKJV)

READ: Job 40:1–14; 42:1–6; James 1:12–15

No matter the hurt, pain, distress, or strife; endeavour not to contend with God and do not attempt to correct Him. Do not rebuke God. The man Job, who did some of these things, was ashamed of himself—he retracted all he said against God when his eyes were opened (Job 40:3–5).

God is no one’s equal or peer. God is supreme! God is our Maker and Creator. The Scripture says we are the sheep of His pasture: “KNOW THAT THE LORD, HE IS GOD; IT IS HE WHO HAS MADE US, AND NOT WE OURSELVES; WE ARE HIS PEOPLE AND THE SHEEP OF HIS PASTURE” (Psalm 100:3 NKJV).

No matter your grief or sorrow, or the grievousness of a predicament, do not see God as your enemy—He is not the author of evil or confusion. He is not the One behind your predicament (1 Corinthians 14:33). Instead of being angry with God because of your situation, why not appeal to Him and ask Him to show you the cause or reason why the predicament is permitted in your life?

God is always right. In most cases, when someone is blaming God for what has gone wrong in his life, the person would have done something that warranted what actually happened, but has probably forgotten that he caused the problem and not God. After much reflection, if God eventually allows him to see how the whole thing transpired, he would be short of words and would not know what to say.

Do not contend and rebel against God because of your predicament; instead, plead and seek to know the cause. After you have known the cause, ask for God’s mercy and help to fix the situation. Do not fight God at all!

Reflect:
• Have you ever been angry with God about something? Did you eventually come to understand why He allowed it?
• Is there a current difficulty in your life that you need to bring before God in prayer rather than in complaint?

Peace.
