If you’re starting the Azure path, I’d recommend AZ-900 (Microsoft Azure Fundamentals) as the first certificate.

- It gives you the core concepts (cloud basics, Azure services, pricing, governance, security basics) without going deep into hands-on admin work.
- It makes the later exams much easier, because you’ll already understand the “Azure language” and how Microsoft structures services.

After AZ-900, the “best next first role-based cert” depends on your goal:

- Administration / operations: AZ-104 (Azure Administrator Associate)
- Development: AZ-204 (Azure Developer Associate)
- Security: AZ-500 (Azure Security Engineer)
- Data / analytics: DP-900 first (optional), then DP-203
- AI: AI-900 first (optional), then AI-102

If you tell me whether you’re aiming for admin, dev, security, or data, I can suggest the cleanest sequence (and what to study first).
