Hello, happy day to all. Recently, on a morning run to my training session, I had the good fortune to encounter a very particular species in a wooded area. Honestly, it was the first time in my life I'd ever seen one up close... it was a toucan, a very beautiful bird that isn't commonly seen in urban areas, but it is one of the birds that inhabit this plains region.

As I was walking through a wooded corridor in that residential area, I was struck by the loud noise a bird was making in the treetop, and I didn't associate it with the other birds that usually frequent the area. So I stopped and looked toward the tangled branches, but I couldn't see it. The sound was getting louder and louder; I couldn't tell if it was annoyed or calling for a mate. Finally, hidden among the leaves, it revealed itself, beautiful, imposing, with its vibrant colors, and best of all, it remained calm, posing for my camera, so I was able to take some pictures.

The toucan is a very distinctive bird due to its size and physical characteristics, especially its highly developed beak. They can measure between 18 and 65 cm in length and weigh from 130 to 680 grams, with the toco toucan being the largest of all species. Its scientific name is Ramphastidae, and it belongs to a large family of piciform birds that includes six genera and forty-two different species.

These birds are widely distributed throughout the Americas. Some inhabit lowland tropical rainforests, while others are found in more temperate forests and even in mountain ranges. Their feathers are brightly colored, their beak is long with a curve at the end, has small, saw-like teeth, and their tongue is very long, narrow, flattened, and pointed, reaching up to 14 cm in length.

Theories suggest that the shape of its beak allows it to defend itself against predators, and also helps it reach fruit at the tips of branches and crack the hard shells of some fruits.
