Yankees score 13 runs in a single inning

I am not watching all the games in MLB, in fact, I barely watch any of them. There are too many games in a season for me to keep up with everything like that and I generally don't enjoy watching US sports live anyway because of the incredible amount of commercial breaks that are involved.

I did go back and watch the highlights of this game though, because this one was historical in several ways.

While scoring 13 runs in one inning sounds like something that has probably never happened before it actually does happen quite a lot if you look at the big picture. When New York pulled this off 2 days ago it wasn't the first time in history it had been done and it wasn't the first time the Yankees had done it. It was the first time that the Yankees had done it in 21 years though and when we look at the fact that there are over 100 games in an MLB season that's a lot of games ago.

When I check the box scores for games anytime that a team has near 10 runs I think that is a pretty special game because although defensive games can be entertaining, the high-scoring games are a lot more exciting for me.

One other thing happened in that game that was pretty damn momentous though and this was the first time since 1949 that 12 batters reached a base in a row. It must have been a pretty frustrating experience for any Oakland fans out there though.

Had the Yankees scored just one more run it would have tied their franchise record of 14 runs in one inning that was set over 100 years ago in 1920.

Another crazy aspect of this high RBI count for one inning was that there wasn't a single home run scored out of all of those hits.

This becomes even more interesting when you look at the fact that there was a point in the same game, where it started to look as though the A's might actually come back to win. The Yankees failed to score any more runs in any of the following innings and the game ended 13-8. Because of this part of the stats, this is the first time that any team in American League of the MLB has EVER scored 13 runs in one inning and then failed to score any runs in all of the other innings.

Now you just kind of have to wonder how A's starting pitcher Jacob Lopez feels. He had 7 errors and all those runs really but a burn in his ERA for sure. His ERA now sits at a staggering 6.75 and this is one of the worst in MLB. Of course the stat is skewed from this one game but that is not something you want on your baseball card now, is it?

An event like this reminds me of a minor league baseball game that I attended while in high school and how most of the people in attendance left the game early because the home team was losing by 12 runs at the end of the 8th. By the time they took their last at bat in the bottom of the 8th nearly everyone had left. Hell, some of the players had probably left, but then the home team scored 13 runs (something about that number I guess) in a row and got a walk off victory to the uproarious applause of the people that were left in the stands. I have to admit that I was there to socialize with my friends and wasn't really even watching the game until that last inning. I was only still there when it happened because I was talking to girls.

I still stand by what I say about there being too many games in an MLB season for me to stay interested, but looking at the box scores is something I do every single day on an app that a friend of mine developed and it is actually really good. I'll talk about that at some other point in the near future.
