Such a simple world without guarantees.

There are many things that we think can make our lives easier, or at least, in certain situations, help us make a choice.

It's quite easy to decide to buy a household appliance when it comes with a warranty card in case of an imminent breakdown, or to buy groceries at the supermarket that have a certificate, which constitutes a kind of quality guarantee.

I wonder where and when this idea came from... probably when people became accustomed to making things of poor quality, because back then, when quality wasn't a concern, everything was high-quality, made from the best materials, and food was always fresh, since refrigeration was difficult.

Now, we need something very convincing, but even some obvious signs of quality guarantee aren't always convincing... am I by any chance confused by this quality pact?

With a certain trepidation and fear, I imagine those times when people had to learn that something was edible and something was poisonous, for example, mushrooms, and no one could give people a guarantee.

Now we can rely to some extent on our knowledge, on various reference books, and on certain external signs, but back then, only external signs were anything remotely resembling a guarantee of quality.

For example, whether a mushroom had been bitten by animals or not seems like a guarantee of edibility, but we now know that some animals eat toxic mushrooms; for example, deer eat fly agarics.

Most likely, such guarantees were a very fickle lottery with very slim chances of winning, and you had to try to survive until the next lottery drawing.
