New impressions.
New impressions.
You know what the most deceptive thing is?
You've probably guessed it: it's what we call new impressions.
You lie a lot, you get less of it, you expect a sharp contrast, but it doesn't come; it lingers like chewing gum stuck to your shoe.
You want to say, "Wow! Spring has arrived!" but it alternates with the cold winter aftershocks of winter, which doesn't want us to be too surprised, saying excessive emotions, good and bad, are of little use to our fragile bodies.
It's like repeating a feat you accomplished as a child: you want to jump from a tree branch again, but when you approach the tree, you see that it's tiny, waist-high, and it's hard to be surprised.
But, of course, sometimes, sometimes, there are real surprises. For example, when I arrived at the seaside, having bought a boat, new fins, and a scuba speargun, and the sea turned out to be ankle-deep for miles around, like they were playing billiards in the nearby cafe. I was definitely surprised by that.
Jokes aside, a new impression is exactly what I got when I saw a butterfly in early spring, although by all rights it should have been born in early summer, closer to it.
So, there are real sources of new impressions, after all.
