Excessive diligence.
Excessive diligence.
Diligence is what parents, teachers, and employers often demand of us, and what we call self-discipline.
Yes, it affects many things, such as the absorption of knowledge and skills, the fine motor skills that determine the speed of preparation, and many other things, especially if you're a chef from Dubai and want to salt beef while standing a kilometer away from a piece of beef... that requires long and diligent effort.
But I've noticed, repeatedly, that some things don't go as planned when I'm overzealous. For example, this can lead to excessive fatigue and, consequently, more downtime later.
And, often, in your diligence, you can forget that it's time to stop filing, having already filed off more than necessary.
So yesterday, the wind with great zeal carried heavy rain clouds in our direction.
He tried so hard that he flung open all the windows and slammed the doors in the rooms, creating a draught.
But he tried so hard that he completely forgot to pour the rain down on the ground, and the clouds flew past, perhaps to where the wind's zeal was more needed.
