Artistic ketchup.
Artistic ketchup.
Making tomato ketchup might seem like a piece of cake: just combine tomato paste and spices, and you'll get the result. But no, it's not that simple, and the first time I tried to succeed, I ended up with ketchup that didn't taste good to me.
I see something similar when I first try to draw a tomato in a tomato patch. It was hard to call it a success, especially during the first two days of working on the drawing. But today, in this tomato mess, I began to recognize what people call tomato ketchup. Or rather, I stopped recognizing tomatoes, and they no longer resembled peeled tangerines.
I've actually seen some tomato varieties with segmented skins, but I wanted to see something resembling a beef heart tomato, large and fleshy.
They say it's easier to break than to build, but when you realize it's hard to build again on the ruins of what you've broken, there's a certain amount of fear. But I overcame it, picked up an eraser, and began searching this tomato for the variety I wanted to see.
I have no idea yet what the final result of this drawing will be, but the plan is to at least lighten some dark spots with a kneaded eraser and finish painting the rest of the landscape of this tomato patch.
