Morning Walks in Havana: A Journey Through Contrasts

in #walk6 days ago

I want to share a recent experience I had during my morning walk along the Malecón in Havana. Using Strava to track my 5 km route, I was not only able to enjoy the exercise but also capture the stunning contrasts of this vibrant city.

Havana is a city rich in history and culture, and nowhere is this more evident than along the Malecón. As I strolled by the ocean, I was struck by the juxtaposition of luxury and decay. On one side, there are beautiful, modern hotels and upscale buildings, reflecting the city's growing tourism and development. These structures boast architectural splendor, with sleek designs and vibrant facades that radiate prosperity.

However, just a stone's throw away, I also encountered crumbling edifices and abandoned houses that tell a different story. These aged buildings, some literally falling apart, serve as a poignant reminder of the challenges Havana faces. The contrast is stark: newly constructed luxury meets historic decline, and it creates a unique atmosphere that is at once beautiful and heartbreaking.

I couldn't resist capturing these moments. The early morning light cast a warm glow over the scenes, highlighting both the elegance of the new and the stories etched in the walls of the old. Each photo I took not only documented my walk but also reflected the complex narrative of Havana itself.

This experience reinforced my belief that every walk can be an opportunity for discovery and reflection. As we continue to grow as a community on Ecency, let's celebrate our shared passion for photography and storytelling. I encourage fellow members to explore their surroundings, whether it's a local neighborhood or a bustling cityscape, and to document the contrasts and stories that unfold before us.
