A very disturbing correlations between virtue signalers, and the most evil word in the English language....
I was perusing some profiles yesterday, who I see as being virtue signalers.
( my light entertainment).
Many times I am tempted to destroy their argument, highlight their weal intellectual position - as a favor, not malice – but they are a vicious lot.
Underneath all that signalling, and 'virtue' they extol, lies passive aggression, twisting, and lying.
A very vindictive lot - children that can write.
As I was perusing some of their attempts at intellect and 'emotional logic', I came across something most peculiar.
Something REALLY struck me.
I continued looking around some profiles, now with an eye to my observations.
Quite a few profiles, in fact.
(I was coming out in rash, from this amount of exposure, but forever on wards, in the pursuit of knowledge.)
I had read enough posts..(I couldn't maintain my sanity and keep reading)
SHOULD.
Yep – the word - SHOULD.
Should, is -without a doubt - the most single evil word on this planet (in English).
It does nothing positive. It is a 100 % negative word.
It cannot be put in a positive context.
Try to.
It shows failure, and instills guilt. Nothing more.
A failure to have actually taken action before the word was uttered.
'I should have done that'
It highlights lack of discipline within ones self. A lack of character within one's self.
It is nothing but a guilt complex, formed into letters. and spewed out, to inflict onto others.
There is nothing good. Nothing - coming from that word.
So just using that word, not only shapes the writers world view, it projects it also, onto and into, the readers psyche.
Nice- not.
It is indeed a deep look into the writers own head, without them even realizing it. - One of guilt or the wish to inflict guilt.
Neither of which is a commendable, or virtuous, quality, in a person.
A linguistic flagellation, (and self flagellation), if you will.
And this is what I came across, when reading - what I deem - to be some class 'A' virtue signallers.
The preponderance of the use of that evil word – SHOULD.
They throw it around with such passion !
Scary shit.
It shocked me such virtuous people would use such an evil word.......
It's everywhere!
In every paragraph it seems, it becomes their basis for whole arguments (whole posts!)
To virtue signalers of the world – TRY omitting the word should – and see what happens to your thought processes.
'I choose to do...' 'Or I choose NOT to do....'
Both are valid terms of expression, but not dripping mental guilt complexes all over your keyboard, and inflicting it on your readers.
(that's a virtuous, adult, action , btw– if you are virtuous of course, and not just a guilt tripping ball of negative controlling energy, trying to appear differently).
Of course, now it has just becomes a fantastic word!
It's akin to a free ticket, to look through a window, into the soul of another...
Don't take my word for it, go have a scout around, my fellow steemitians.
Look and see who is, (intentionally, or otherwise) spreading negative energy around these parts- you might be very surprised, and you may find you have a very different perspective on some posters on here...
Please note – This is a humane post, and no virtue signalers were actually harmed in the production of this post.
Feel free to link this into any post if you deem it worth a pointing out of the use of this word- you are doing them a service...

I'm pretty stubborn, sorry I'm made that way, I just totally block (in my mind), anyone who uses this word - should on me. Evil really.
I would appreciate a sample profile of this virtue signaler who uses the evil word and I promise no harm will be done as well. Thanks.
lol - It is waay more than one profile.
There is no way i am saying any profile names here! lol
You can tell me one lol like a secret like this - * - I'm so curious don't be inhumane.
I'm just callous, I know...
And so am I!
I do not think it is an evil word. Would/will/was is generally a stronger usage but "should" is not a bad word, it merely implies free will when compared to would or will. Signalling virtue is probably an invite to an argument or even a fight, but I am usually willing to have the fight....I could/should/would elucidate on this concept but I kind of agree on the grosser points.

it implies guilt for an action not carried out.
Or a moral judgement on another for there actions/inactions.
Either way its negative -
An invite for others to see their stupidity, and intellectual dishonesty, more like. lol
I do not quite grok the concept of virtue signalling. I have my core values, if I state them in a convo I am always willing to stand by until the brutal end. I see the misuse of should/could/would very clearly but I believe it is because most of the species is following Orwell's prophecies into absolute statism.
not so much following orwells prophecies -More like being led to the slaughter house willingly, by the psychopaths and sociopaths in power.
Have you read Alfred Korybski's work on general semantics?
I haven't, but had a very quick look at it from your comment - cheers for that.
Is the guy a bafoon ? lol
After a few lines I read
'He observed anew that each human generation has the potential capacity, unlike animals, to start where former generations left off.'
Has he never studied rats, or rabbits, and warren digging? and the next generation carrying on where the previous generation left..?
Schoolboy stuff.
I was critical from that point on....
THEN I got to....
'more general formulation to fit the world and 'human nature' as we know it today rather than as Aristotle knew it c. 350 BC. '
Human nature is human nature, and has not changed in 2350 years.
I know of no historical evidence to counter that paradigm.
I won't cast any more criticisms on the poor fella - but if what I have read so far is the content of his thesis- I am going to do a post on him !
What are your thoughts of it? or of things he said of value (or stupidity).
I don't know your perspective, so very interested to hear.
His concept of "propositional noise" is solid, he pretty much invented the concept of "signalling", but the real gem was his contribution towards the E-Prime language used by Daniel Pinchbeck and R. A. Wilson. Korzybski is way influential and way under-read. I like Hakim Bey, Alfred Adler, Jung, and a host of other writers but Korzybski came from a different perspective and without him we would not have guys like Burroughs or Chomsky.
Ok. Thanks for the info, matey.
Heard this on the radio and it made me think about this convo:https://onbeing.org/programs/jonathan-haidt-the-psychology-of-self-righteousness-oct2017/
The cosmic ballet continues. :D
cheers matey - VERY interesting discussion..thanks for that!
(Had a day off from steemit frustrations- hence the delay in reply - I made some soldiers instead! lol)

Rats and Rabbits leave diaries, dictionaries, and encyclopedias behind? Humans are definitely different as we can teach but our writing is not all contained in our DNA. Korzybski might look different if you look at him from the perspective of say a cultural psychologist, then again there wouldn't be any cultural psychologist's perspective without him and Shweder.....
I can vaguely see it though. People say off-colored things like "You should have smacked your kid." I always stand up to this, but I hear other people in casual conversation avoid such statements or go quiet. I have rather simple morals based in reason and logic. Zero emotional intellegence so I might be the offender and not really know it. I still do not see how it is a "thing" though..... probably because words like "You should have....." are simply not in my vocabulary, thank Yod!
Look at the picture accompanying the text. I think it gives the general concept of "signalling virtue." It doesn't use the word "should" but Korzybski, Bandler, and many others write extensively on the use of the word, especially in its relationship to signalling.
pretty cool piece from NPR https://onbeing.org/programs/jonathan-haidt-the-psychology-of-self-righteousness-oct2017/
