Chaya or tree spinach but popularly know as HOSPITAL-TOO-FAR according to we the Nigerians or the villagers, it's a nutritional and also medicinal. Communities have used it for centuries to support digestion, blood sugar and bone health. It is normally cooked cause you can't eat it raw. The fresh leave contains hydrocyanic glucosides which release cyanide. Boiling it breaks that down and makes its totally safe. It taste mild when cooked, we normally use it to cook soup or stew, it tastes good with stew.
Chaya grows like a shrub, needs little water, and you can keep harvesting leaves without replanting. That's why it's called a famine food, it's reliable when other crops struggle. The stems and sap can irritate skin so always wear or cover your skin when cutting the leaves, if you don't do so and you cut it if the water touch you your skin will be itchy and it will bring out acne
