You need to deal with the cabbage moth early
Good morning to all my friends on Steemit. This is a video I'm sharing and I'm going to explain something in both the video and the blog.
The last thing any farmer wants is to grow their crop, it's getting close to harvest day and they wake up one morning to go and check the crop only to find out that a pest has ruined it. It'll be months of hardwork going down the drain.
Cabbage farming is very productive but also very susceptible to attacks by some insects and this particular moth which I've shown in the video is just the worst.
When I see them around they look so harmless, it's flying around not doing what the mosquitoes are doing to us but if you own a cabbage farm and you see these insects around, you should be alert.
What they do on your cabbage farms is they lay eggs that hatch to develop into caterpillars. These caterpillars eat up the leaves of the cabbage plants and eating the leaves mean large holes usually at the centre part where the leaves are thick and fresh. The cabbages as I said in my video will not grow well if this is happening. The cabbage won't even be able to form heads for you to harvest and sell.
Because of the bad shape, they won't grow well at all, that means you're not going to be able to send this to the market. You're at a loss. You might think it's one or two cabbages but no, when you allow them to breed, it's your entire filed that is going downhill.
If you don't want this happening to you, you need some agricultural practices. Crop rotation is a very good thing in this situation. You can be changing planting locations and that will interrupt the insect's life cycle. You should always check new plants for any sign of the eggs. One thing the caterpillars like is a place with weeds so always be clearing the ground of any weed.
There's an extra thing you should do and I've included that in the ending part of my video. Thanks for watching the video.
