After Us

There will be mornings that arrive without carrying our names. The rooms will keep their shape, but something invisible will be missing. Sunlight will touch the same walls without knowing what it once witnessed. The world will continue, untouched by what it took from us.

People will speak of ordinary things and never mention our story.
The places we loved will welcome strangers without hesitation.
Footsteps will cross the paths we once believed were ours alone.
Nothing will pause long enough to remember.

Yet traces of us will remain where no one thinks to look.
In forgotten songs, in habits neither of us intended to keep.
A certain hour of the evening will still feel familiar.
Some memories will return without asking permission.

And after everything has settled into distance, there will still be echoes.
Not loud enough to change the future, only enough to reach the heart.
What we were will belong to another time, but not to nothing.
It will exist quietly after us, carrying its own unfinished light.
