The Negative Effects Of Gentle Parenting (21/4/2026)

Hello My Steemit Family! Good evening to you all... Hope you're all doing well? It's @prosper-1once again. Today I didn't come with a dairy game post, rather I came with something that would have an impact on how we raise our kids, with a case study of what transpired recently where I stay.

Alright, let me tell you a little bit of what happened. Few days ago, a Mom walked into her son's room around 10:am to wake him from sleep, mind you, the boy should be around 11 to 13 years of age. Immediately the mom tried waking him up, he woke up angry, shouted and resisted. He even went ahead to fight the mom for interrupting his sleep. Then it got me wondering " Is this the case of gentle parenting or what?" It was a question I couldn't find an immediate answer to.

After that scenario, I realized that, One of the biggest problems with modern gentle parenting is that, it often leads to " Lack of discipline". In an attempt to avoid emotional damage, most parents " Allow children to misbehave, most parents over pamper instead of enforcing rules". They allow children to decide everything, so when parents finally sets even a small rule of waking up early, it feels like an attack to the child.

I have always said it that, "Gentle parenting is good but when misapplied, can ruin children". It can make them develop what experts call "Emotional Entitlement" . They begin to feel that what they don't like shouldn't happen, that their actions justifies their behavior. When a child begins to learn emotional dominance, that's when simple moments like, waking up can excalate into aggression.

Well, I'm not saying that gentle parenting is bad, all I'm trying to point out is that, it should requires warmth and structure. Rules should be put in place. There should be boundaries, because for a child to fight his mother, shows that boundaries were never established in the first place.

Always know that, kindness without boundaries can confuse children, and boundaries without kindness can harm children, so there should be a balance between the two.
