Contest alert- All in one contest W33: How Outdoor Play Improves Kids’ Physical and Mental Health

in Steem Kids & Parents20 hours ago

Nowadays, there are numerous children who spend a most significant portion of their time inside, and they usually watch a TV, tablet, or phone. As much as technology has its positive side, I reckon it has also decreased the time children spend playing outside.

Playing outside is not only a source of fun, but it plays a significant role in the growth and development of a child. Outdoor play is an influential activity in developing healthy and happy children, whether it is through building strong bodies, or enhancing emotional well-being.

To begin with, outdoor play has a great contribution to the physical health of children. When children run, jump, climb or ride bicycles they are exercising without even knowing it. I have observed that children who play with each other on a regular basis are more active and energetic.

These exercises aid in strengthening the muscles, coordination and the strengthening of bones. It is also good to play outside as it helps the heart to stay active due to increased duration of movement in children.

Compared to indoor play, outdoor play can be more spacious and free, thus motivating children to employ their entire body. This type of physical activity can prevent childhood obesity and other health issues.

Besides physical advantages, outdoor play has a powerful influence on the mental health of children. Nature is relaxing to the mind. I have witnessed how a trip to the park or playing around trees would make children feel more relaxed and happier.

There is less stress and anxiety outside and this is particularly vital in the modern world that is fast-paced. School, social situation and even home expectations can put pressure on children. Play outside would provide them with some relief against these pressures, and their minds are able to rest and refresh.

Outdoor play has another significant advantage since it enhances the mood and emotional balance of children. A lot of this is due to fresh air and sunlight. The sunlight assists the body to synthesize vitamin D that is significant to the physical and mental health of the body.

This is one of the reasons why I think children tend to be happier and more cheerful after outside play. Outdoor play is also the way of letting kids to express themselves. They are able to scream, laugh and roam freely. Such liberty assists in getting rid of accumulated feelings and enhances their mood.

When children play outdoors, it also assists them to acquire social skills. When children play together outside they learn to communicate, share and problem solve. I have realized that outdoor games may involve collaboration and teamwork.

Children learn to play with others whether by playing football, skipping ropes, or by exploring with them. The experiences allow them to form friendships and how to cope with various situations in the society. This is of great essence to their emotional development and confidence.

Creativity and imagination are also boosted through outdoor play. Children have unlimited possibilities to play with nature. I have witnessed how children would make swords out of sticks, leaves out of decorations, and open spaces into fantasy.

Outdoor play gives the children the freedom to think and be creative unlike when they are playing in the structured activities indoors. This type of creative thinking will matter in future in solving problems and learning.

In addition, outdoor games also enhance concentration and attention. Children can also get back to their studies after spending time out and are more refreshed and ready to learn.

I am of the opinion that nature rejuvenates the brain. Rather than being exhausted or distracted, children are more alert. This may result in improved performance in school and an improved attitude towards learning.

To sum up, outdoor play is crucial to the physical and mental well-being of children. It makes their bodies stronger, their mood better, less stressful, and develops valuable life skills in them.

I am firmly convinced that children must be motivated to spend more time outside by their parents, even though it is only a few minutes every day. In the increasingly digital world, outdoor play seems to be a simple yet effective method of breeding healthy, happy, and well-balanced children.
