Today, I am very excited to share my entry for the Contest organized by the Steem For Pakistan community. A special thanks to the community admin @suboohi Apu, for hosting such an engaging competition.

Spreading positivity and creativity through my words.

The Kitchen Diaries Week 1: Magic with 3

In my opinion, the kitchen is a magical place where extraordinary memories and tastes can be created with even the simplest of ingredients. This challenge of making something delicious with just 3 main ingredients is really wonderful. Eid has passed in just two days, and in our Bengali homes, Eid means an abundance of shemai! Today, with the shemai and a few other ingredients at home, I made a crunchy and delicious Shemai Pitha. Let's take a quick look at this magical recipe with just 3 ingredients.

Shemai Pitha

Since oil, water, or salt will not be counted as per the contest rules, I have mentioned the 3 main ingredients of this recipe below:

Required Ingredients

IngredientsAmount
Shemai200 gm
Sugar100 gm
Egg1 piece

The Recipe & Making Process

This snack is quick and easy to make. Below, I am sharing each step in detail:

Step 1: Prepare the Shemai and Egg Mixture
  • First, in a clean bowl, break 200 grams of dried Shemai into small pieces with your hands. Then, break an egg into a bowl, mix it with 100 grams of sugar, and beat it very well until the sugar dissolves completely.

Step 2: Making the dough
  • Now, I poured the beaten egg and sugar mixture little by little into the broken shemai and kneaded it lightly with my hands. (If the mixture seems too dry, you can use a little 1-2 spoons of water or milk, but the egg will definitely make it a nice dough). After kneading, I kept the mixture covered for 5 minutes so that the shemai softens a little and sets.

Step 3: Shaping the pitha
  • After 5 minutes, I took small portions from the mixture and flattened or rounded small pitha shapes with the help of the palm of my hand.
Step 4: Frying and final shape
  • Now, I heated enough oil in a pan on medium heat on the stove. When the oil was hot, I dropped the pitha one by one and fried them until they were lightly golden and crispy. That's it, hot and crispy shemai pitha was ready!

The Story Behind It

There is a story behind every recipe, which takes us to the door of some memory. There is also a small story behind making this Shemai Pitha. This time, on the occasion of Eid, quite a few types of Shemai were bought at home. I felt a little tired after eating roti and meat during the Eid days. I wanted to eat something sweet, and since I will be participating in the contest, I bought a packet of Lachcha Shemai without delay. I thought we always eat common snacks, let's try something different today with the contest in mind! I quickly made this pitha with just one egg, sugar and Shemai. When I served it to the table with hot tea, I saw a surprised look on the eyes of everyone in the family. Everyone praised it so much that whenever I saw the theme of this contest, the idea of this Shemai Pitha came to my mind first.

My Thoughts on Simplicity

Many people think that cooking something delicious requires a lot of ingredients or spices. But my experience cooking with these 3 ingredients has completely changed that perception. To be honest, although it was a bit difficult to limit yourself to a limited number of ingredients at first, it was a lot of fun and creative.

The moment before eating homemade Shemai Pitha

I learned that the simpler and simpler the cooking, the more the true flavor of the main ingredients comes out. I would not have realized how much magic can be done with a few things if I hadn't participated in this Magic with 3 challenge. This is a great idea for entertaining guests in less time, at less cost and without any hassle.

You've prepared good brunch my friend. I would definitely love to taste those as they are looking tasty. I love when fried things are crispy like this, but I think you miss the information in this challenge. The challenge says you're to make magic with 3 Ingredients , salt, water and oil. It didn't say you should exclude them.
