Property: A Blessing or a Test of Relationships?

Assalamu Alaikum

How are you all doing? I hope everyone is well by the grace of Almighty Allah. Alhamdulillah, I am doing well too. Today, I am here with a new piece of writing. I enjoy sharing my thoughts and discussing various topics that relate to our daily lives. There are many important issues around us that can teach us valuable lessons and help us better understand society and human behavior. Today, I would like to talk about one such topic—Property.

Property is an important part of human life. A small piece of land, a house, some savings, or a business—all of these are considered forms of property. People acquire wealth through years of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication. Therefore, property is not only an economic asset; it is also connected to people's dreams, memories, and life stories.

A father spends his entire life working hard to support his family, raise his children, and leave behind some assets for their future security. His hope is that even after his death, his property will benefit his children and strengthen the bonds within the family. However, reality is not always so simple. Many times, the very property that is supposed to bring happiness becomes a source of conflict, misunderstanding, and broken relationships.

In our society, disputes over property are quite common. Brothers argue with brothers, sisters disagree with brothers, and relatives often become involved in long-standing conflicts over inheritance. Those who grew up together, lived under the same roof, and shared both joy and sorrow sometimes end up standing against each other over a small piece of land or ownership of a house. Years of relationships can be lost in legal battles, court cases, and endless arguments.

Property itself is never the problem. It fulfills human needs, provides security, and helps build a stable future. The real problem begins when greed and excessive attachment to wealth take control. When people start valuing money more than relationships, conflicts naturally arise. A piece of land can be purchased again, but a broken relationship is often difficult to rebuild.

Imagine a family where an elderly father leaves behind some land and a house before passing away. He has four children. At first, they sit together and discuss how to divide the property fairly. Gradually, disagreements begin to emerge. One believes he deserves more, while another feels his contribution to the family was greater. Small complaints grow into major disputes. Eventually, they stop speaking to one another, even during family celebrations. The property that was meant to provide security ends up destroying the peace of the family.

Such incidents are not limited to a single family. Countless families face similar situations. In many cases, disputes over property even lead to the neglect of parents' final wishes. Children forget that the person who created the wealth through years of sacrifice was far more valuable than the wealth itself.

However, property does not always have to be a source of conflict. With proper planning, fair distribution, and mutual respect, property can strengthen family unity. A responsible person can leave clear instructions regarding assets during their lifetime. This helps reduce confusion and prevents unnecessary disputes in the future. Family members must also understand that fairness and relationships are worth more than material possessions.

Although property is necessary in life, it should never become life's ultimate goal. No one can take wealth with them after death. What remains are their deeds, memories, and the love they leave behind in the hearts of others. History has forgotten the names of many wealthy people, while countless ordinary individuals continue to be remembered for their honesty, kindness, and humanity.

Today, people's interest in wealth and property is greater than ever. Due to economic competition, social status, and the desire for a better lifestyle, many individuals devote themselves to accumulating assets. There is nothing wrong with striving for success. The problem arises when that pursuit leads to the violation of others' rights or the destruction of relationships.

To build a healthy society, we need responsible use of wealth and a strong sense of justice. If people view property as only one part of life while recognizing relationships as the true foundation of happiness, many conflicts can be avoided. Open communication, mutual respect, and fairness within families can significantly reduce disputes over property.

In conclusion, property can be both a blessing and a test of relationships. Acquiring wealth is important, but preserving humanity, honesty, and family bonds is even more important. Land, houses, and money may disappear one day, but love and relationships remain the greatest treasures of life. Families that understand this truth do not allow property to divide them; instead, they use it as a means of cooperation, security, and a better future for everyone.
