What is bitcoin
Bitcoin was the first successful internet money to use peer-to-peer technology. There is no central bank or entity involved in the transaction and production of Bitcoin currency. It was created by an anonymous person/group under the name of Satoshi Nakamoto. The source code is publicly available as an open source project. Everyone can view and be part of the development process.
Bitcoin was the first successful online cryptocurrency and inspired many alternative currencies such as Peercoin, Litecoin, Primecoin and others.
Bitcoin is designed to generate only 21 million BTC, thus making it a deflationary currency. Bitcoin uses the SHA-256 hashing algorithm with an average transaction confirmation time of 10 minutes. Bitcoin only uses ASIC chips dedicated to Bitcoin mining and hash rates that reach the level hashmap.
