Participating in this learning challenge is one of the greatest things I choose to do today. I want to do what I like doing most at my leisure, that is cooking different tradition meals. It is one of the things that gives me joy and inspirations as I could translate my mind, imaginations into a plate for consumption.

Every mother has a key role to play in family consumption. Here in my country, women determine what food is best for their families and sometimes men and children say what they are craving. It is important to satisfy the craving of our family members with traditional taste of your country.

Prepare a meal (not snacks) that represents your root and identity and show us the recipes and procedure of preparation.

  • Afang Soup with Cassava flakes (My taste, My culture)

In my pre-preparation, I went to market and get already slice afang leaf, I paid money for it to be grind.

I selected flowers from water leaf, wash it thoroughly with salt, salt it and set aside

It was the right time to wash all your protein like your meat, fish, cowskin, periwinkle Pound crayfish and this is how we arrive here where all ingredients set for cooking.

Why is this food important to your people? When is it traditionally eaten? (Is it festive, ceremonial, daily, or symbolic?). What does it represent culturally? How does it reflect the lifestyle, values, and history of your people?

Afang Soup is very important to the people of my state because it is more than just a good time , it represents our culture, celebration, identity and hospitality.

Afang soup is the most know traditional soup and it is widely eaten by almost everyone. Afang soup is a taste of my home in a bowl, it is the soup that is cooked for any guests, for traditional marriage, funeral service, Anniversaries and any occasions or activities that required food with lots of people.

Any occasion in my region without Afang soup, is not well planned, it doesn't even exist before in history. Any soup prepared in the occasion must be afang soup. This is to tell you the how we cherish and value the meals.

Here is Akwa Ibom State, a typical ibibio woman will not fail to Cook Afang soup for her family. Afang soup remains the first every family use to teach our young once how to prepare soup. It is expected to that if you can prepare a delicious pot of Afang soup, then you can keep a home. Afang Soup will always remain my favourite.

It reflects a lifestyle that values hard work, patience, natural resources and the importance of nourishing our body.

What memories do you personally associate with it and the price of the ingredients in steem and local currency?

One of my most memorable moments with Afang soup was during my sister’s marriage , which happens early last year. It was a day filled with joy, laughter, and the beautiful aroma of traditional cooking. It is always a thing of joy to have a beautiful maiden taken.

That morning our compound was full visitors and our relatives. Women gathered in the kitchen in small groups with their knife and basin of Afang leave. Other once take of other ingredients. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, teasing and storytelling.
My mum works around all corner and supervise how the preparation this yummy dish. The aroma of the soup slowly filled the entire compound.

That was when the bride said " My husband will never forget the taste and the aroma of this soup"

To be very sincere, all the visitors who taste the Afang soup request for me. They ate with smile and ask who prepared it.

At that moment, I fell proud because Afang soup was not just food but create joy, together and made her marriage memorable. Even till today, I can't forget the smell of that fell in a hurry.

Poetic cultural cliche

Afang soup is far more than food;it is culture in a pot.

Afang Soup is where tradition meet love, where our culture speaks without words and where every spoonful carries the heritage of our people.

¡Saludos amiga!

The story of Afang soup is not just the story of a dish, but the story of a home, a mother, a tradition and a civilization. The way you have described it is touching. Especially the memories of the wedding occasion were so beautiful where the fragrance, laughter and love were all present together. Such foods really settle in the memories and stay with a person throughout their life. This sharing of yours shows the true beauty of your culture.
