As we know that the challenge of this week is about the choice movie. So I have chosen to explore my thoughts and views about The Dark Knight. This movie is not only about the superheroes and villains. It has deep reflection and theme of the consequences. It shows how a single choice can change everything.

What single decision in the movie changed everything?

The most powerful decision in the movies was made by Harvey Dent. But he made this decision near the end of the movie. There was a time he was known as Gotham's White Knight. Harvey was the symbol of justice, hope, and integrity. But after experiencing personal loss and emotional trauma he reaches a breaking point in the movie. The decision which changed everything was was the one when he chose to abandon hi principles. He embraced revenge and he left his fate. He also left the fate of others to flip a coin.

This moment is significant. Because Harvey was not always a villain. He was a person to whom people used to trust. He always believed in the fairness and justice. H had a decision that the chance should decide the life and the death of the people. It showed how deeply he had fallen. This choice not only destroyed his own life. But it also shattered the hope which the people had in him. It changed how Gotham viewed justice.

What would you have done differently?

If I were in the position of Harvey I would like to believe that I would have chosen differently. Indeed it is easy to say that when you are not facing the same pain or loss in your life. But despite of giving in to anger and revenge I would like to hold on to my core values. I would seek justice from the correct ways. It is very important to seek justice in the difficult times. It truly defines the character of the person. But turning pain into destruction only causes more problems. But on the other hand patience and resilience can lead to healing.

For me the decision of the Harvey seems wrong. It is not because his pain was not real. But it was because that he allowed it to control him completely. The actions of Harvey were driven by the emotions instead of the reason. The idea of leaving decisions to the chance may look good apparently. But in reality it removes the responsibility and efforts one should put to polish their lives. Being humans we are accountable for our choices. But when we avoid that responsibility and accountability it can lead to dangerous outcomes.

The thing which makes it more impactful is that how it contrasts with the choice of Batman. As Harvey fall into the darkness the Batman chooses to take the blame of the crimes which he did not even committed. He did it only to preserve the hope of Harvey which he represented. This shows that even in the darkest situations we still have the power to choose selflessness over the selfishness.

Did the character’s choice feel right or wrong to you? And why?

This movie tells us that the decisions are not always made in the suitable and comfortable situations. Sometimes we have to make decisions in our weakest moments. Sometimes we need to make the decisions when the emotions are high but on the other hand the clarity is low. But these are the true moments which defines us truly. A single decision made in the pain and anger can have long lasting effect. It is not only for us for it impacts all those who are in our surroundings and linked to us directly or indirectly.

Conclusion

I can say that The Dark Knight beautifully highlights how power the choices can be and their impact in our lives. The decision of Harvey Dent changed everything. It turned a hero into a tragic personality. It serves as a reminder that no matter what we face we must be mindful about the choices where we get the chance to choose among many. Because the choice shape our lives and the lives of the others.
