Daily Prompt | Caveman

The caveman knew that if he didn’t leave the cave, his days were numbered, because the last piece of dried meat his tribe had left him when they migrated south had run out a couple of days ago.

Hunger grew hour by hour, but it did not give him the courage to abandon the cave that had been his refuge and safety since birth.

His life began tragically, as his mother died during childbirth, and from that moment he was considered bad luck. No one wanted him nearby, which left him insecure and unable to learn the basics of survival on his own.

He grew up in the cave eating leftovers meant for the dogs and drinking a daily bowl of water that some kind soul left in his corner while he slept.

As the winters grew harsher, the tribe decided to migrate to warmer lands, and within days they set out, without looking back, because they knew that whoever stayed behind was destined to die in the same solitude to which he had been condemned since birth.

El cavernícola sabía que si no salía de la cueva tenía los días contados, porque la última pieza de carne seca que le había dejado su tribu cuando emigraron al sur se había acabado hacía un par de días.

El hambre se agudizaba hora tras hora, pero eso no le infundía el valor necesario para abandonar la cueva que representaba el refugio y la seguridad desde que había nacido.

Su vida empezó trágicamente, ya que su madre murió en el alumbramiento, y desde ese momento fue considerado de mala suerte. Nadie quería tenerlo cerca, lo que le generaba inseguridad e incapacidad de aprender lo básico para sobrevivir solo.

Creció en la cueva comiendo las sobras que destinaban a los perros y bebiendo un cuenco diario de agua que algún alma bondadosa le dejaba en su rincón mientras dormía.

Cuando los inviernos iban poniéndose cada vez más crudos, la tribu decidió migrar hacia tierras más cálidas y en cuestión de días iniciaron la marcha, sin mirar atrás, porque sabían que el que se quedaba estaba destinado a morir en la misma soledad a la que fue condenado desde que nació.
