The Color Purple……..North Cascade Wanderings

Happy Friday Eve everybody! Tomorrow is THE day! I know I’m looking forward to it! 😁

Purple-lots of people love it and some don’t. Are you a lover of purple? I am!

I know that it’s considered a ‘royal’ color. I know it’s comprised of blues and red in combination-but what else is there to know about it?

I asked ChatGPT; here’s some information it provided me:

Purple is a color between blue and red on the visible spectrum, often associated with royalty, creativity, mystery, and luxury.

Some well-known shades include:

  • Lavender
  • Violet
  • Plum
  • Mauve
  • Indigo

In design and psychology, purple is often used to convey imagination, spirituality, elegance, or uniqueness.

ChatGPT goes on to say:

Purple is one of the least common colors in nature, which is part of why humans have historically treated it as special or rare. It sits between blue and red on the color wheel and combines qualities people often associate with both:

  • Blue → calm, thoughtful, cool
  • Red → energetic, emotional, bold

That mix gives purple its reputation for being both peaceful and powerful at the same time.

Purple in History

For centuries, purple dye was extremely expensive. One famous ancient dye, called Tyrian purple, was made from sea snails and required enormous labor to produce. Because of that, purple became associated with royalty, emperors, and wealth.

  • Only nobles or royalty were allowed to wear certain shades of purple.
  • Purple garments symbolized authority and prestige.
  • Religious traditions also adopted purple for themes like wisdom, repentance, or sacredness.

More from ChatGPT:

Purple In Nature

Even though purple is uncommon overall, some of the most striking natural objects are purple.

So those special starfish I find at Bellingham Bay are special indeed!

It’s interesting to me that it says that purple is uncommon overall, it’s interesting that you can find so many shades of it in nature anyway!

Our brains apparently do not see a single purple wavelength, but in fact, blends red and blue together so we can perceive purple! Pretty amazing!

Color overall, is interesting to me and I like most all colors. However purple is my absolute favorite-except for a color of a car. Maybe that’s because no auto paint has ever been the right shade of it, nor did they put enough metal flake in it to tickle my fancy!

My steps for today:

That’s gonna be it for today. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day wherever you are! 🙏🌏🙏

BSB Exodus 26:1-2

You are to construct the tabernacle itself with ten curtains of finely spun linen, each with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and cherubim skillfully worked into them. Each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide —all curtains the same size.
